My family connection to the Martin Clan is through a Sarah Sally Martin Reed who was a relative of Rachel Martin Shell. Rachel's father was an Issac Martin of Burke County, NC.

My Sarah Sally Martin married Edward Reed, the oldest son of John Reed. John Reed, Edward Reed and a David Reed lived close if not next to Christian Shell in Warren County, TN. My 4th great grandfather's (John Reed) second wife was Mary Martin who was a sister of Wm. "Rock) Martin.

Per the Shiloh Presbyterian Cemetery listing in Warren County, TN, Wm. Martin married a Virginia Jenny Bradford (Sept 1785-28 Oct 1866), a daughter of Thomas Bradford of NC. The 1850 Warren Co. census lists Jenny as a Jane.

From the Martin Family Quarterly dated Nov. 1981: It is said that William Martin went from Burke County, NC to Warren County, TN about 1802 with Jacob Martin, Thomas Bradford, the Shell and Christian families. My Reed Line bought Warren County, TN property in 1807 and seemed to be well above the average economic level of other settlers.

Another noted Martin was Jacob Martin who married Catherine Myers, (born 1786, NC) dau. of Moses Myers of Burke Co., NC. If you have the resources you can match up some of these names as to wether the Martin's were from Burke.
