John,

The more Im reading these posts, Im wondering if some of these men were leading double lives or are they 2 diffrent people. Your William Rock Martin b. 1782 and mine b. 1779 ( per 1 1850 census) Both born Burke. Both kin to the Shell's. The Shell's were our neighbor's in Burke so were the Spencer's.This all in Gunpowder Creek. I know that Jesse who died in the poorhouse in Caldwell NC has Reed in their line. I dont know where my William died but he is not on the Caldwell NC census in 1860. His Wife Amy and daughter Henrietta in 1860 were by themselves. My William was said to have 13 children but I only know of 3 born in Burke. I know my William's wife Amy was not his first wife. She was about 15-20 years younger than him.So was my William possibly married to two different women at the same time going back an forth?? Your William died around the time My William falls off the census.

I dont know what to make of these Martins anymore!

J
