The Office of the Register of Deeds in Buncombe County, North Carolina is extremely helpful. They patiently filled my requests for Banks land records dating from 1796 to 1924 when I ordered well over 100 records last year.
The cost was a reasonable $.25 per page plus postage at that time. I suggest you write or e-mail the following office to begin your inquiry:
Register of Deeds
60 Court Plaza
Asheville, NC 28801-3563
Otto W. Debruhl
Mr. Debruhl is the Register of Deeds for Buncombe County.

If you are looking for other land records, this office can copy a surname index which provides Book and Page numbers for all individuals of a particular surname. This index lists records from the 1790's to about 1924.
You might also want to check out www.buncombecounty.org and register for access to Buncombe County records which are posted on line through the Register of Deeds office. They have copies of the actual land records from 1924 to 2003. Just click on Departments and find the Register of Deeds page. The register for free.
I hope this helped.
