Andrew B Campbell b. supposedly Buncombe Co. NC

Hi
Wondered if someone out there can figure out this puzzle.
I have Andrew's Pension File and it lists his birth place as Buncum County, TN in 1834.
I figured that maybe their was a redistricting of land, that possibly they were incorrect in the facts. But when I researched Buncombe County came into existance in 1791 and it is also spelled incorrectly.
Also did some research to see if their was a Buncombe Co. in TN, no deal. Another dead end.
Anyone out there got the answer to my puzzle.
Appreciate any help with this.
Andrew B Campbell was born Aug 1834 to Johnston H Campbell & Martha Andrews. They were married in Blount Co. TN in 1834
Any information would be appreciated.
Is there any records I might be able to take advantage of to find my answers. For instance, would their be birth records for this time span.
Thanks
Sally
