Hey Richard, I have some information on the McGalliard's you're searching for but I've got them from Burke Co., NC. Apparently they lived in Buncombe Co before because they show up on census records there. Some were born in McDowell Co. and other places.

First of all there is John and Jennet Mctaggart McGalliard and their children, who you so nicely provided info for me on. Thanks!

David McGalliard, a son of John and Jennet, was b. 1800, in Burke Co., NC. He was a farmer and was married twice. First wife's name: unknown but they had two children: Nancy McGalliard, and Caroline McGalliard. Then he married Catherine England McGalliard, b.???, NC. She was the daughter of James and Nancy England. David and Catherine had 14 children: 1. Thomas H. McGalliard, b. 1832, 2. William McGalliard, b.??, enlisted in confederate army, NC, 3. David Wesley McGalliard, b. 1837 (more information on his family below), 4. James A. McGalliard, enlisteded in confederate army, NC, died while imprisoned at Rock Island during the Civil War), 5. Joseph F. McGalliard, b. 1842, was also enlisted in the confederate army, NC,(more info below), 6. Robert McGalliard, 7. Sarah McGalliard, 8. Lucinda McGalliard, 9. Catherine McGalliard, 10. Rebecca McGalliard, 11. Margaret McGalliard, 12. Mary McGalliard, 13. Eliza McGalliard, and 14. America McGalliard.

David Wesley McGalliard, son of John and Jennet McGalliard, b. 1837, (1900 Buncombe Co., NC Census). Listed in 1880, 1900, and 1910 Buncombe Co.,NC census. His wife is listed as Elivra and then as Rachel. His children are:

1. Robert T. McGalliard, b. Nov. 1867, NC.

2. Joseph B. McGalliard, b. ca. 1873; married Mattie; Children: Eulalia, b. Mar 1897; Otto, b. Nov. 1898; Ohad, b. 1902; Minnie, b. 1904; Texie, b. 1906; Sanford, b. 1908; Winston, b. 1911; Pansy, b. 1914; and Thelma, b. 1917.

3. Martha Addie McGalliard, b. July 1875

4. John F. McGalliard, b. Oct. 1877

5. Anderson McGalliard, b. Sept. 1880; married Nannie.

Thomas M. McGalliard, b. 1798-99; a son of John and Jennet McGalliard, was married to Martha B. Clarke, b. 1804. They had a son named John Mellon McGalliard who married Eliza Anna Lowman.

Joseph F. McGalliard, b. 1842, McDowell Co., NC., son of David and Catherine McGalliard, married Mary J. Marrs McGalliard, born in Madison Co., NC., She is the daughter of M. L. Marrs. Their children: Minnie, Mattie, America, Robert, Dora, Maud, Clara, and Alice. Joseph F. was a farmer, a democrat, a Master Mason and he and his family attended/were members of the Primitive Methodist Church. He enlisted in Company B., 35th Regiment NC Volunteers, Confederate Army. Infantry. He was promoted to full sargeant on May 15, 1862. He received two slight wounds. At the end of the Civil war he worked for his father, David, farming for three years. He then attended school in E. TN for 10 months. In 1869, he moved to White River Valley. He owned 311 acres of land, 90 acres being highly cultivated.
