There is a household in the 1810 Census of Buncombe Co, NC for JESSE HARRIS which includes: Males under 10, #2; males 10-15, #3; male 26-44, #1 AND females under 10, #2, female 26-44, #1. This probably is the household of my g-g-g grandfather, Jessie Harris. My g-g grandfather, JESSE HARRIS (son of Jesse Harris) who married CATHERINE BOYD KEEBLE, was born about Aug 1810 I believe in NC. Since prior to 1850 only the head of a household is indicated in the census, it is very difficult to search through census reports for someone other than the head of a household.
A Harris family researcher indicates that Dr. Jesse Harris had two brothers, Thomas Harris and Zephaniah Harris.
Jesse Harris' and Catherine Boyd Keeble's son, JOHN THOMAS HARRIS, was born 2 Aug 1845 in Benton Co, MS, but the family soon moved to W TN to Gibson Co, then Haywood Co that became Crockett Co about 1872. John Thomas Harris is my g grandfather.
Dr. Jesse Harris gave up his medical practice about the last decade or so of his life and served as the Crockett Co Court Clerk. He and his wife are buried in the Alamo City Cemetery in Crockett Co, TN.
Dr. Harris and Catherine Boyd Keeble also had a son, David Wells Harris, who became a physician.
My ancestors are described in my ancestry.com family tree: "Charles Robbins Harris."
Do these names ring a familiar bell to anyone whose family originated in NC?
