Buncombe from old Walton County, Ga.

Can anyone give me the historical background of Buncombe County? It is my understanding that it was formed in the 1800's from land that was disputed between N.C., S.C., and Ga., and was originally the old Walton County, Ga. Also are there any Edgar folk living in Buncombe county now or any descendants of the Edgar family? Finally, is there a census of the county in the early 1800's?
