Phillip Spencer Huntley

My g-grandfather, Phillip Huntley was found on the Rutherford County Census for 1880 and 2000. Family stories say he lived in Arden and worked on building the Biltmore House. Unfortunately, the census for 1890 does not exist. I have been in contact with the Biltmore House and Suzanne Durham advised that they had some records labeled "Payroll Records" but they were in no condition to be searched, She suggested that I contact the Main City/County library to see if Phillip Huntley was listed in a city directory between 1890 and 1895. Zoe Rhine of the library advised that he was not listed but added that the City Directory did not include the residents of Arden.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to confirm that Phillip Huntley did live in Arden during the building of the Biltmore House? I have seen statements that 1,000 workmen worked on building the Biltmore House but I have never seen a list of names.
