Greenfield Mystery

Hello,

I have two heads of household, Matthias and Nathaniel Greenfield, listed on the 1800 census of Buncombe County, NC. After 1800, they both disappear. They each have a wife and there are eight children among them.

I can find no records other than the census of them in Buncombe County and after that they seemingly vanish. Does anyone know if this area was prone to Indian attack in the early 1800's. I know further up north in Virginia there were several massacres, however, they were much earlier.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Cindy Graham
