Hi Kathy, Saw your msg re Gause Landing. There is indeed such a place and I was born and raised there. It is about 7 miles south of Shallotte, 11 miles north of Calabash and is adjacent to Ocean Isle Beach (a barrier island when I was growing up we went across in a row boat and spent the day against Mother's direction and played in the sand dunes until we were tired). Gause Landing is located in Brunswick County. It was nothing more than a "landing" on the Intracoastal Waterway (prior to the waterway it was just a landing on a creek.) Are you related to the Gauses from that area? If I can be of any further help let me know. I now live in Charleston SC (retired USG) and my mother is in a nursing home in Shallotte, one brother still lives there. I have a friend who lives about .10 of a mile from the Landing. If you will give me your direct e-mail add I will give it to a him and have him chat with you. His family was raised there, he will know more of the history than I will. Look forward to hearing from you. Marlene/Pat Gupton PS It is indeed on the new state maps.
