I am a ggranddaughter of Samuel Robert Chinnis who was once an overseer of the Orton Plantation in Brunswick County. He was married to Emma E. Garrason and together they had 10 children, the youngest being my grandfather. His name was Simeon Dalton Chinnis and he had a nickname of Dallie. He had siblings of Julia, Mary, John, Melissa, Samuel Lee, Anna, William Herbert, Alonzo and Adrian. Julia married an Edward Franklin Grimes and Melissa married a Gaston M. Robbins. Samuel Robert had a brother named William J. Chinnis and he married Anna M. Williams. They had at least three children. They were Charles, Thomas Fletcher and Augustus M.. Augustus married Nellie Brew and they had Lila Mae and Commodore C.. I have not been able to determine who the parents of Samuel Robert and William J. Chinnis are. If anyone has any info that they would like to share, I would be happy to share what I have. I discovered a lot of what I have in the genealogy department in the New Hanover County Library in Wilmington and in the courthouse in Bolivia in Brunswick County. In the library in Wilmington, they have a file with newspaper clippings that are from the Wilmington newpaper and they refer to members of the Chinnis Family.
