Charles Benbow and his brother Gershon Benbow immigrated from Trefeglwys, Montgomeryshire, Wales, about 1718. They settled in Bladen County, NC, about 1735-1740, and they both died there. After their deaths, Charles' family moved north to Guilford County, NC, and most of Gershon's family moved south to South Carolina. They were members of the Society of Friends.
We will be meeting on Saturday, June 12th, 2004, in the fellowship hall of:
New Garden Friends Meeting,
801 New Garden Road,
Greensboro, NC 27410.
This location is across the road from Guilford College, where the Hege Library houses the Friends Historical Collection for this region. The hinges and latches which Thomas Benbow, son of Charles Benbow, made for the old New Garden Meeting House, are on display in a cabinet outside the FHC room inside the library.
We will be gathering around 11 a.m. for a covered-dish lunch (so please don't come empty-handed!), and then we will spend the afternoon learning more about the family's heritage.
We will be casually dressed, but you should remember that we will be in a church environment - so please respect our hosts' sensitivities and wear reasonably modest clothing.
We are still in the process of arranging speakers, etc., so you can visit the family website for updates and more information as it is posted there:
and then use the "Reunion" link to visit that particular page.
To be placed on the e-mail or snail-mail mailing list for reunion notices and maps, please use the "Contact Us" link and then send me an e-mail or card asking me to add you to the mailing list. But I always request a mailing address for the times when e-mail addresses fail, so please remember to provide me with that, and the information on your link to the family as well.
Local places of interest will also be included in the information that is posted to the website and sent out to the mailing lists.
The descendants of Charles Benbow are sponsoring this reunion, but we do assure you that ANY descendant of ANY Benbow is most welcome to join us! We hope to meet many new cousins that day. Thank you.
