Peggy, I found a picture of the old Abbottsburg School in some of my mother-in-law's clippings. She had noted that it came from the Bladen Journal, April 30, 1990, page 11. They may have a copy of this paper in their collection of old papers. She also had a page of other information about the school which may or may not be of interest to you. If you would like me to send this to you, you may e-mail me at and I will send what I have to you.
One of the teachers, Harriett M. Cain Cashwell, was mentioned in her info as she was a relative of my mother-in-law.
As to the question of where your grandmother lived, who was she? Was she originally from Abbottsburg? Did she marry someone from there? If she was the Harriett Cashwell I mentioned above, I have information on some of the Cains and Cashwells. Some of the Abbottsburg people may be able to help you if you supply that info.
