Mercer Grimes was my 4g-grandfather. I have data on his relatives in Bladen County. Two sons were Mercer Grimes, Jr. and Thomas Grimes. Thomas was my 3g-grandfather. A Mercer Grimes sold his farm to Thomas Grimes in 1821. Thomas sold this farm to my 2g-grandfather, James Wesley Grimes in 1828. The Mercer that was alive in 1850 could be Mercer, Jr. I assumed Mercer, Sr. died and Mercer, Jr. and Thomas went to GA or AL.
