A new member of our Turner DNA Project is a descendant of Washington Turner born in 1777 and died 1842 in Ralls Co. MO. It appears from records both there in MO and in Bertie Co. NC that he served in a unit drawn from Bertie Co. in the War of 1812 and received a warrant for land in MO for that service. He married Lucy C. Brown in 1820 in Halifax Co. NC and it is possible she was a second wife. He may have had a son Eaton Turner by a first marriage but this is still unconfirmed. Eaton Turner was enumerated adjacent to him in the 1840 Census of Ralls Co. MO and next to widow Lucy C. Brown in 1860. His DNA is a match to the descendants we have in the project who are confirmed descendants of Humphrey Turner of New England who was in Scituate Co. MA. This suggests Washington Turner could be related to Thomas Turner said to be in the line of Humphrey Turner who is on a deed in Bertie Co. saying he was of Scituate, MA. Supposedly, this Thomas Turner was married to Mary Bryant and was the father of Gov. James Turner of NC who died in 1824. I'm wondering if perhaps there is some mixup of some of these lines of Turners in the area. I am particularly interested in the family of Thomas Turner who is the father of Amos, Abisha, Beniajah, David Turner among other children named in his will. The Beniajah Turner sounds so much like the names that occur in the Humphrey Turner lines in New England. If anyone is a direct male Turner descendant of this group, I would encourage you to join us in the Turner DNA Project with FTDNA to see if you too might match the Humphrey Turner line and this descendant of Washington Turner. It could provide a break in tracing this line. Gail R. Blancett, Administrator, Turner DNA Project Notify Administrator about this message?
