The father of James Howard of Bertie (Will 1729), who married Sarah Titus , d. of Thomas Titus of the HMS Adventurer, that landed in Virginia in 1656...was Francis Howard , youngest son of John Haward (Howard) that got to Jamestowne, Virginia, 2nd Colony in 1621...killed in the Indian Massacre on the Bennett Plantation in 1622. This
The James (Obadiah), if that were his name, was the Uncle of James of Bertie, not his father....
I think now too, that it was as before: James got to America via the Adventurer in 1656 having been born in England, in Saffron, Walden, Essex, and came to America at the same time as Thomas Titus and daughter Sarah Titus Howard.....probably married in England prior. The Adventurer left from about London and arrived , and the group were known to be in Isle of Wight earlier prior to getting down to Nansemond, and on into Bertie Co. , and having property there, on "Cooneriscratt, Ahorsky Swamps Area......The 1729 Will is in the records in Raleigh, and I have a copy.... This is my direct line back and down, and will be glad to share with anyone requesting info on this, or the next to the youngest son...John Howard, Esq..that got to Onslow about 1742 cir. and was married to a Quaker Lady : Francis Denson....Their older son James Howard, and my line who had married Hester Moore, d. of Epharaditus Moore, had property on the Bear Creek, Deep Creek, out near Swansboro, N.C., and had gotten the property in 1752, and moved to then New Hanover Co. in 1762 on Fredericks Creek then , today called Virginia Ck....and in Pender Co. ...I still live on the original property of Grovedere (1835) Plantation, here in Hampstead as of 1892 has been called such. ANYONE WANTING A COPY OF MY 39 GENERATIONS OF THE HOWARDS....I HAVE FOR THE ASKING, BE GLAD TO SEND YOU A COPY AND A BIT ABOUT EACH GENERATION. BEGINS WITH MY GREAT GRANDAUGHTER, AND GOES BACK AS FAR AS "Hand-Me-Downs; Research; and History", takes the Howard England and thru....Let me hear from you if wanted. Dr. Roland J. Howard Hampstead, 1762
