John BERRY, Old Post Road, Bath/Bft. Co. NC ca 1730s

Is anyone kin to or do you know anything about a John Berry, who had an Ordinary in his house on the Old Post Road, between New Bern, Washington, and the town of Bath ca 1739? He may have had two brothers -- Richard and James, possibly a 3rd brother, who may have been an Edward. This John Berry (or his son) may also have become high sheriff (ca 1760s) of what is now Carteret County. I have recently found a mention of this in some very old records and am trying to see if this is my ancestor/kinsman. He may also have been a seafaring captain, whose name could have been spelled John Barry. The same information I located also contained records of a Barry's sailing a schooner to the Caribbean and bringing back a large quantity of rum. Many men who served on courts in Old Bath stayed at the Berry inn/ordinary. Thanks for any response. Florence Fulford Moore
