This was orginially posted about 4 years ago...I'm still searching
I am searching for the first wife of Jacob Crouse, Jr. (several spellings of this). Although it is known he was married to Margaret Willey and fathered many children, Margaret is too young to have been Jacob, Jr.'s wife in 1820 where we find him between 16 and 26 with a wife between 16 and 26 and two young girls under 5. I believe my GG Grandfather Richard Crouse to be his son born between 1820 and 1830. I have his (Richard's) death certificate that states his father was Jacob Crouse and his mother was Susan and he was born in NC. I believe Susan died young very likely from child birth. Jacob Crouse, Jr is the only Jacob that fits the necessary parameters to be Richard's father. We also have information and death information on an Elizabeth Crouse Hill. She was born in about 1823 also in NC. Her death information states she was nee Crouse and included the name "Wampler" which we believe is her mothers='s maiden name. I have scoured the census rolls. This Wampler could be Stamper or Stampler or actually Wampler. But Wampler appears to be a Virginia name while the Stamper and Stampler families lived in the same general area to the Crouses. BTW: Elizabeth Crouse married Martin Freeman Hill. This family also was in the same area as the families mentioned above.
My Great Grandfather was John Crouse son of Richard Crouse and Jane/Jennie Holloway Crouse. He was born in Ashe County in about 1855. Shortly after that, the family moved to Tazewell, VA. They If anyone has any ideas or information ...please e-mail me at: JCSuper1@aol.com
