Colvard family
Posted by: Richard Colbert (ID *****7152) Date: February 19, 2012 at 01:37:23
  of 1097

I am a direct line descendant of Thomas and Sarah Colvard/Colbert from Franklin and Halifax counties, NC.
Thomas worked as a blacksmith and owned a tavern (ordinary) in
the town of Halifax between 1758 and 1768. He then moved his family west to Bute Co (now Franklin and Warren counties). In 1790 the Federal Gov't had their first census and spelled our
name Colbert. It's been Colbert in the census records ever since. However, when my 3rd great-grandfather Thomas died in 1846, he signed his will Thomas Colvard.

Last year I learned I had the same DNA as the Colvard family
that lived in western North Carolina possibly Rutherford Co

The head of this Colvard family was William Pleasants Colvard. He had a son named Wade Hampton Colvard, born 1812.
This family moved in the early 1800's to Hardemann Co., TN along with the Gage, Ross, Riggs (Ricks), and Cody families
of Rutherford Co.

In 1830 Wade Hampton Colvard married Latha Ann Gage in Hardemann Co., TN. So it is obvious that this Wade Hampton
Colvard did not marry Phoebe Vannoy in 1831.

I'm trying to find out if the three Colvard families from
Wilkes/Ashe, Rutherford, and Halifax/Franklin counties are
related; i.e., have the same DNA.

I am willing to pay for DNA test to male Colvard who was descendant of William and Temperance Colvard of VA; i.e.,
Wilkes/Ashe county area.

Please call.
