I just checked a document I have that shows part of a page of Ashe County residents who served in all wars. A McGuire cousin of mine photographed the document at the Ashe County Courthouse. The photo only shows of part of the page but the surname under McGuire is McMillan. I saw at least five McMillans identified as CW Veterans. One was in Company L 65th NC Regiment and one identified in Company D 5th BTN. This may be the 5th BTN NC Cavalry. Members of Company D were transfered to Company B 65th NC Troops (6th NC Cavalry) when it was didbanded. A document I have shows Company B consisted of Ashe County residents. Another of my ancestors (Church) served in Company C and when the 5th BTN was disbanded many of those troops were transferred to Company H 65th NC Troops.

If you go to you can go through each the Confederate units and click on 'M". Then look for McMillans. I don't think you have to be a member to look at these records but to copy National Archive pages attached to the men you have to be a member.

Hope this helps.
