In Reply to: BENNETT's of RICHMOND, ANSON and MARLBORO, SC by Cindy Bennett of 1775

Here is what I have on the Bennett's ----

I have the wills of the following people:

WILLIAM BENNETT SR DIED 1795, This will clearly states his wife is OLIVIA. Children listed are William, Nivil (sp) James (deceased), Rachel, Jane. It lists his son in law George Lindsey ( his daughter Margaret "Peggy" has passed away at this poing. This will also lists grandchildren of his. This most important thing I can tell you about this man is THE WILL IS PROBATED AND INVENTORY IS TAKEN IN RICHMOND COUNTY NC !!!

He lists his wife but does not state her name ( Sarah) Children listed are Ann, Elizabeth, Susana (sp ) William, Minard, John, James, Silas, Neavil. THIS WILL IS PROBATED IN ANSON COUNTY NC Note that he died before his father and his father William clearly notes in his will that his son James has died and that James wife is Sarah.

If you do not get any other copies of wills be sure to get this one. This man either did not have children OR he didn't leave anything to the children he did have. The valuable thing about this will is that he left his property to his neices, nephews and other relatives. The best part is that in this will he names the relatives and who their father's are. He lists relations like MY BROTHER JAMES. THIS WILL IS IN ANSON COUNTY NC

NICHOLAS CLARK will written January 1808 RICHMOND COUNTY
Wife is Rachel, daughter of William Bennett SR This will is also valuable. It list relatives and who their parents are. I have a transcribed will. It would be valuable to get the copy of this will and the court records on wife Rachel. Nicholas' inventory is dated March 1810.

WILLIAM BENNETT 1840 ANSON COUNTY of all the wills I've ever had to read this one is in the prettiest handwriting I've seen. IT'S FOUR PAGES LONG.. Its dates MAY 1840. probated OCTOBER 1840. This man clearly married SUSANNAH DUNN. It even lists her mother MARY DUNN many times in the 4 pages.

Another valuable piece of paper I have is the bastardly bond against ELIZABETH BENNETT. It's dated FEB. 1793. If you go back to look at the Elizabeth Bennett's in Richmond County. The only logically conclusion is that she is the daughter to William Bennett JR ( b 1737 d 1814) The confirmation to this is that Nicholas Clark and Rachel leaves $100 to John Thomas JR, son of John Thomas SR. John Thomas is listed as the father to Elizabeth's child. Rachel and Nicholas Clark are the aunt and uncle to Elizabeth Bennett.

If I can say anything at all to those that are researching genealogy... take the time to research wills. Go look at the wills of the wifes parents. They always leave money to their grandchildren so they list their daughters married names and the children she had. Its not rocket science people. Just take the time to do the research and stop posting wrong information. PLEASE !!
