There are basically no landmarks to show where the Tillman Station Community is but its located along highway 109 South outside of Wadesboro within a mile of Camden Presbyterian Church. A week or two ago I posted on my Facebook page, some information on Tillman Station but never received a response but there were a few people who clicked the "like" button & then I posted the same info on the "Around Anson" Facebook page whereas one person made a comment stated she went to school for a few grades there. Anyone African American younger than 55 years old has probably never heard of Tillman Station School. That is what 84 year old Mrs. Tillman told me two weeks ago when I asked her about the community. She told me she attended school at Tillman Station in the 1st, 2nd & 3rd grades. I asked her about the cemetery but she stated such a cemetery does not exist, but there was one such "abandonded" African American cemetery in that area rediscovered by a Mrs Wiggins in the late 1970's whereas as she was traveling down highway 109 South, the sun bounced off a corner of a headstone in the overgrown bushes so she stopped her car & waded into the bushes & made notes of those buried there. Anyway, in regards to the school, I've attended several African American funerals in Anson County over the years & the obituaries of these old individuals state they attended school at Tillman Station. Enough Said for now.
