I am researching my ancestor, John Duncan, of Ashe/Yancey Counties. Ginger Wineman that you were corresponding with at one time, passed away in 2002 (you may be aware of this). I have been looking over her files, and see that you were also discussing possible descendants of the Fender and Duncan families. With that said, regarding the question of the Duncan Mill, someone has said that they think maybe this mill is the same one that is listed on the New River Notes site, owned by John Duncan, but it is listed in VA (Rye Cove area). The person who advised me of this, thinks that maybe this is the same mill. I know the state lines changed from time to time, but how much? Do you know anything about that? I don't know that much about the area, but I do know it is close to the state line. The county history book for Alleghany County (you are probably familiar with this book) has a hand drawn map of Mill Sites in Alleghany County. It lists the Duncan Mill as #18 and says "on Little River, 2 mi. NE of Sparta." Does this agree with your information.
Also, in your correspondence it was mentioned about possible info you might have about the Duncan's connection to Surry County, NC. Have you ever pursued that? I would appreciate any help you can give me.
