Hi Joe , I have been reading with great interest your Poatings on Jeremiah Doty/Doughty/Dutton. Now are you researching Jeremiah Dutton or are you researching Jeremiah Doty/Doughty?I have no info on the Doty/Doughty family, but, I do on Jeremiah Dutton's Family and I can tell you they are NOT the same man. I see also that you are from Benton, AR. My Dutton ancestors , or part of them, ended up in Washington/Benton Counties of AR on the Indian Reservation in 1838. The sons of Jeremiah Dutton were John Dutton, born 1773 in SC and Samuel, born 1775 in SC.John is buried there, as is his wife , Susannah Stepp Dutton. You will find many generations of his grandchildren buried in the Dutton Cemetery near Rogers AR and the others buried in the Goshen Cemetery, Goshen, Benton Co. AR.One of notable interest is Mose P. Dutton who you will find in the Book on Benton County History as being a Medthodist cleryman , Blacksmith/wagonmaker, Postmaster and a teacher. Some of these Dutton moved to Texas , Georgia and California. Jeremiah did have a brother Daniel , but at the time Jeremiah lived in VA, Daniel lived in Georgia. Daniel came to SC shortly after Jeremiah arrived there. He had children there , too. We also believe that 2 sisters traveled with Jeremiah to SC, as a will was found later which mentioned a nephew, Dempsey Dutton, which was Daniel's son , and a census record of 2 females in their household ages 15-20.Dempsey Dutton also lived for a short time in VA as did Samuel , John Dutton's son. Samuel later moved to TN where his chldren married and his sons fought in the militia. My Jeremiah Dutton was born 1749 in Orange County , VA. The earliest record we have for him is 1772 when he was on a tithables list in Boutourte CO. Va. In 1772 he & wife Sarah went to SC where John was born in 1773 & Samuel was born in 1775. He was in the Whig party and served on the Circuit and Petite Jury for the 96th District. Yes, he own land there 720 acres on the Tyger River and he lived at the edge of the Indian Lands just north of Sparta. In 1798-99, Jeremiah and Sarah had sold off all their land and started their move back to VA, yes in Russell County. They settled there with friend of the family, Moses and Sally Jackson Stepp. He was NOT a land owner there. John, did purchase land in 1805 and on the 1830 census Jeremiah and Sarah are in their household as 79 - 80 years old. Samuel, the youngest son, was the first to leave SC about 1797-98 and we think that's why the family left SC. Jeremiah Dutton and his wife Sarah, are buried on John Dutton's farm near Nickelsville , Scott County , VA, which is where they lived before John & Susannah went to Ross's Landing for The Cherokee Indian Removal. Jeremiah Dutton died there between 1830&32, as did his wife Sarah. The Duttons who didn't go to the reservation were the 2 eldest sons of James Cass and Matilda Mollette Dutton and the daughter of John Dutton, Sarah who married a Penix. They are the ancestors of all the Duttons in KY and VA. I hope I have shed some light on the confusion between Jeremiah Dutton and jeremiah Doty/Doughty. If I can help in any way with you search let me know.
