Hello Rick;

I am having a heck of a time trying to find anything on my Murphy line. I know so little; do you happen to have knowledge or a list of Murphy's (spelling can vary) who were living in Alexander County, especially around the Taylorsville area in the very early 1800's?

The mother of my great-grandfather, Levi Barnes, was Sarah Murphy/Murphey/Murphree who married Joshua Barnes. I know his lineage but I can't seem to locate any of her family. They were married there on June 3, 1819. At that time, Alexander County was still Wilkes, but it was still in or around Taylorsville where they lived until about 1828 when they migrated to Lawrence County, Indiana.

I have seen on various web sites and in the U.S. Census that there was an Eli Murphy, whose dad was Archibald. I have also seen the name of "Solomon Murphy"; my great-grandfather had two brothers named Solomon and Eli, and perhaps they were named after the Murphy side of the family.I also found a "Celia Murphy", and he also had a sister named Celia.

If you have some sources for me to investigate, I sure would appreciate it!

Thanks in advance,

Penny F. Gardner
