The 1920 and 1930 censuses clearly state that Fred said his father was from NH and his mother from AK.

Calif.), bookkeeper (chemical park); and one unrelated Norwegian-b. boarder.
1930 census, Calif.: Solano Co., Vacaville Twp., e.d. 22, p. 2B, dw. 49, fam. 54. Frederick L. Nay, owned home ($4000), 51, b. Calif. (father b. N.H., mother b. Ark.), m. ae. 28, proprietor (radio shop); Marion B., 53, b. Calif. (father b. Mich., mother b. N.Y.), m. ae. 30; Edith N., 18, b. Calif. The family owned a radio set.
I have been very far in my research; I have been doing this for over 20 years (and I am 35). I don't make brash assumptions.
