The 1920 and 1930 censuses clearly state that Fred said his father was from NH and his mother from AK.

Ark.), m. ae. 28, proprietor (radio shop); Marion B., 53, b. Calif. (father b. Mich., mother b. N.Y.), m. ae. 30; Edith N., 18, b. Calif. The family owned a radio set.
