Trying to find g-g-grandfather and link to Ireland

We can trace our family (on my mother's side) back to John Thomas Naughton B 1852 in Victoria, Australia and his marriage to Caroline Anne cooper, B 4 June 1860 on Mimosa Station, near Wagga Wagga, NSW, Australia, on 8 July 1887 in Narrandera District.

Caroline's father was Archeson Cooper B 1830 in Co. Fermanagh and he mother was Caroline Emms, B 1835 in Birmingham (England presumably!). They married at Liverpool, NSW.

I can't find any trace of a birth or marriage of John's father in Victoria or NSW records. His name is thought to be William Naughton. There is no record found so far for his journey to Australia.

So we guess he must have come from Ireland sometime before 1852!
