Well we're definitely talking about the same family...I descend from Paddy Conneely and Mary Naughton. I had Mary's parents as Dudley Naughton and Mary Molloy, but that could be wrong. I believe a cousin in Ireland told us this, but as all the names are so similar, it could be wrong.
Paddy Conneely and Mary Naughton's son Seamus (b. Feb 1859) was my Great Grandfather. Seamus d. in 1949 and married Cait Toole)
His brothers were:
Thomas b. 1856 d. 1928 (m. Kate Conneely)
Coleman (Ned) b. May 1861 d. aft 1911 (m. Mary Toole)
Michael b. Jan 1864 d. Feb 1939 (m. Nora Walsh)
John (Sean) b. May 1867 d. ? (m. Mary Lydon or McDonagh)
and possibly a Martin b. ?
Seamus and Cait, my Great Grandparents had 10 children:
Martin, the oldest, was my Grandfather. Martin and brothers Patrick, Michael, and sister Mary all emigrated to Oakland/San Francisco area. A brother John and sister Delia emigrated to Pittsburgh. Youngest sisters Cathernine and Nan worked in the US for sometime, but returned to Ireland, living near Oughterard. Brother Tom stayed in Glantrasna at the family home, his wife was Nora Joyce. Tom died in 1984, and the family home went to his wife's family as they had no children.
I visited Glantrasna in 1977 and we met Tom/Nora. I was back to Glantrasna again in 1999, and we visited my cousin Sean Conneely and his wife Bid, who live just down the way from our old family home. At that time our old family home was not being lived in. We also visited the cemetary in Lettermore na'Coille where my Great Grandparents (and many other relatives) are buried.
Sean's sister Maureen Nee, who lives in Oughterard took us there. She is well into her 90's, but remembers everyone! Maureen told us that our Mary Naughton had been married before her marriage to Paddy Conneely, and had 2 boys....but that once she married Paddy, the boys went off to America. Not sure if this is fact or fiction....
I also have a cousin Maura (Conneely) Folan, and her husband Joe, who live in the first house as you come into Glantrasna. I have not met them, but a cousin of mine in Pittsburgh is quite close to them, and sees them often.
I have a cousin in Lettermore na' Coille, Martin Walsh, and my Grandfather Martin's wife was Barbara Walsh, from Muckinghekillew.
Would love to hear more from you on your family in Glantrasna! My email is:
