Nattress' to 1584 - N. Yorkshire/Durham
I am direct desendent of line of Nattress to family farm "Middle Walmire" nr. Dalton/Croft, N. Yorkshire. Ancestors were tenant farmers on Chater Estate, adjacent to Barnard Castle for over 400 years. All buried at Croft, Dalton, Great Smeaton churches. Many of my family relaives sill live in area and we would be very happy to either help and/or meet with other Nattress/Nattrass/Nattriss family members.
My father's research took the name back to Norway with the original family name of Anattresson, (roughly translated to "navigator son") there are many Nattress family names in Norway. So we are possibly all ancient Viking stock, which would account for the searches of everyone in this forum leading back to NE England. Last Viing raids were in this region of UK in late 16th century. I would be happy to speak withanyone interested in following this line of investigation.
