I would like information connecting the following Nations family members who were listed in various early Fayette County, Georgia records. These individuals all lived in the Brooks/Starrs Mill area in south Fayette County. 1: James W. (Washington?) Nations, born 1830 in Georgia, first appeared on the Fayette County census in 1850. He is listed in the household of John C. Brassell. He married Elizabeth Chappell in Campbell County on January 26, 1856. James and family continued to show up on the Fayette (or Coweta) census until he died in 1920. Various sources believe he came to Fayette County from Pike County, Georgia. James indicated on the 1880 census that his parents were born in South Carolina! There is a great deal of information about James W. Nations and his family at the Fayette County Historical Society. Who are the parents of James W. Nations? 2: Daniel Nations, born 1795-1804, was the only Nations family member listed on the 1830 census for Pike County. Daniel moved from Pike County to Fayette County before 1840 where he was listed on the 1840 census for Fayette County. By 1840, his household lists six probable daughters and three probable sons. A Daniel Nations of the correct age is listed on the 1820 census for Pendleton District, South Carolina. Is Daniel the father of James W. Nations? Daniel Nations disappeared from all census records after 1850. Did he die before 1850. What happened to his widow? 3: William A. Nations, born about 1826(?) married Elizabeth Haisten in Fayette County on January 3, 1861. He was a member of a Masonic Lodge in Fayette County, and he enlisted on May 1, 1862 in Company C, 53'rd Georgia Regiment. He died of disease at a hospital in Richmond, Virginia on March 4, 1863. I could not locate William A. Nations on the 1850 or 1860 census! Is William A. Nations another son of Daniel Nations? 4: Mary Nations, apparently a widow with two children named Mary and Martha, appeared on the 1860 and 1870 census for Fayette County. Mary's age is listed as "70" on the 1860 and 1870 census, so one census is obviously wrong. The age of the two daughters is not consistant either. William Ben Hunt, born about 1857, is also listed in this family group. Mary B. Nations married Sanford V. Hunt in Fayette County on July 9, 1856. William Ben Hunt must be the son of Sanford V. Hunt. Did Sanford V. Hunt die before 1860? Is the older Mary Nations the widow of Daniel Nations. She did not appear on the 1850 census. 5: Patsey Nations, born about 1837 in South Carolina, is listed in the household of Thomas and James Nations on the 1880 census for Fayette County. Thomas and James were two sons of James W. Nations and Elizabeth Chappell. Patsey Nations is listed as their "Aunt". Is Patsey Nations the sister of James W. Nations? Any info on these folks will be appreciated. Jack Landrum Notify Administrator about this message?
