Thursday, June 29, 1905

MR. JACOB OPPENHEIMER died at the home of his son, ELY OPPENHEIMER, in this city on Saturday morning, June 17, 1905, at nine o'clock, at the advanced age of 80 years, after an illness of only two days with uremic poisoning. He was taken ill on Thursday morning and became unconscious within an hour, remaining in a comotose condition until his death. The remains were taken to Des Moines on Saturday evening where funeral services were held on Sunday conducted by Rabbi Mannheimer of Sioux City, after which interment took place in Emanuel Cemetery.

JACOB OPPENHEIMER was born in Steinbach, Germany, on April 15, 1825. he came to the United States in 1848 and lived in Cincinnati, Ohio, for many years. He afterwards moved to Zanesville, Wis., and for the past six years has made his home in Chariton with his son. About 1852 he was married to REGINA NATHAN, who passed away many years ago. He was the father of six children, only one of whom, ELY OPPENHEIMER of this city, is living. He is survived by six brothers and four sisters. he was the eldest in a family of elevan children and was the first to pass away. MR. OPPENHEIMER had reached the ripe old age of four-score years and often expressed the wish to depart this life. He was a kind-hearted, true man and his sudden death has caused much sorrow.

Those who attended the funeral, besides the families of ELY and SIMON OPPENHEIMER of this city, were a sister and brother of the deceased, MRS. YETTA SELIGMAN of Chicago and JOE OPPENHEIMER of Webster City, and a number of nieces and nephews, including MR. and MRS. MAX LOEB of Albia, JULIUS OPPENHEIMER of Jefferson, MR. and MRS. ELI KAUFMAN and MRS. BEN GRADWOHL of Knoxville, JACOB STRAUSS of Cincinnati, Ohio.
