We were told that Sir Matthew Nathan A Governor of Qld Australia in early 1900's was a cousin to my g.g.mother, Jane nee Newton.
He was born 1862 11 Pembroke Square West London. Mother Miriam Jacobs, father Jonah Nathan born 1810,(whose G.G.Father A Quill maker came from Dessau Germany. Jonah's first wife was Olivia Josephs they were married in 1846 and had one son Nathaniel who became a judge.
Jane Newtons mother, Hannah (1. Newton/2. Treeve)and her Father Barnett or Barnard Aaron Phillips and mother Clara (Solomon) came from London to Australia in 1832. Clara's Parents were Michael Solomon and Hannah Joseph.(Born approx 1770-1780)I haven't quite worked out how this fits yet.
It has also been said that the name Nathan was changed to Newton when they came to Australia ??? They were all hebrews including David who was Janes father. There is very little information about hin.
