This is a great opportunity to find out if/how the different NASON branches are related. I am encouraging a male first cousin to participate in the study on our family's behalf.

Our family is descended from Albert NASON who was born about 1833 in Paterson, New Jersey. He was in the 1850 household of John KERSHAW Jr. & Elizabeth NASON (or NASAN), who married in Paterson. Elizabeth was probably Albert's mother or aunt. John KERSHAW Jr. was born in Lancashire, England. Elizabeth was born in New Jersey or New York. The family moved from NJ to SC and back to NJ and was in Cumberland Co., NC, by 1850. John KERSHAW was a cotton manufacturer.

We have never been able to prove a connection to any other NASON family although it is possible that we are related to the Southern NASONs who emigrated from Ireland.

Albert NASON had a daughter named Cornelius (not Cornelia), which was a common Dutch first name (for males). When taken with the New Jersey-New York origin, I have wondered for sometime whether our family may be of Dutch origin, which might explain why there is no clear tie to other NASON families.
