Several messages on this and other boards have supported that Eli (Elijah) W. Narramore of Hall County, Georgia and Titus County, Texas by-way-of Tishomingo County, Mississippi married Frances Reagan with Frances being the first of two wives. I also agree that Frances is a perfect fit as Eli’s earliest wife, but would greatly appreciate an explanation of whatever hard evidence there is out there in support. It is also reported that it is the second wife and their children that came to Texas with Eli in the 1850’s. The second wife is usually identified as “Sarah M” perhaps on the basis of the 1860 Census for Titus County, Texas. The children reported to be of this marriage, as included on the 1850 MS and 1860 TX Censuses are: 1. William Jackson Narramore, born 1830 2. Alfred Narramore, born 1834 3. Sarah Narramore, born 1835, married Curtis Hobbs in AL or MS and continued with family to Texas. 4. Marion Narramore, born 1837, not yet found in Texas in 1860, perhaps the P.M. Naremore who married Peter Crum in Tishomingo Co. MS in 1854. 5. Eli Maxwell Narramore, born 1840 6. James K. Polk Narramore, born 1845 Firstly, I would like to sort out the wives. If the 1860 Census is correct, “Sarah M” would have only been 4 years old when William was born about 1830 and about 18 when James was born in 1845, so chances are she isn’t the mother of most of these children. Perhaps “Sarah M” was a daughter-in-law or some other relation. But more significantly, the 1850 Census for Tishomingo County, MS, indicates that Eli’s wife, with a practically illegible name thought to be “Jane,” was born about 1799, a much more convincing age. (And there is a possibility that if one looks hard, one could perhaps read the name as “Fran”.) So I wonder if there really is more than one wife at all, and if there is, could her name be Jane? Secondly, I would like to sort out the other children, those of Eli and Frances, born before or after 1830, in Georgia and possibly Tennessee. The 1830 Census shows four possible daughters and one possible son (5-10). The 1840 Census supports this number and perhaps even more. One of the daughters may be Louiza Naramore who married John Harrison 20 Jan 1845 in Habersham Co., GA. Another could be my relative, Edward Narmour who married Mary Ann Ellington, probably in Attala County, MS about 1848. Edward Narmour was born in Tennessee in 1829 and indicates in the 1880 Census that his father was born in GA and his mother in TN (for this to be the correct parents, it must be recognized that his parents only resided in GA and TN, having been born in SC and NC respectively). I would appreciate any comment or information that anyone out there has. I’ve got a lot of accumulated data on this family and would be pleased to share with anyone.
