Obituary of SARAH "HALDEMAN" NARAMOR wife of Elisha Naramor

===================================
LASALLE COUNTY, ILLINOIS

STREATOR DAILY FREE PRESS

March 07, 1900

MRS. SARAH NARAMOUR

Death of Pioneer Settler of Eagle Township--Age 74 Years.

Mrs. Sarah Naramour wife of Elisha G. Naramour, died last evening at 9 o'clock, at the family residence a short distance north of Kangley. Surviving the deceased, besides the husband, are four children--Mrs James Effner, Miss Lousia Naramour and C.A. Naramour of Eagle township, and Mrs. L.H. McCall, of Streator, also a brother Allen Haldeman. of Eagle township and a sister, Mrs O'Neil of this city. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon from the house; services conducted by Rev. Sanborn, and interment at Naramour's Cemetery.

At the time of her death Mrs. Naramour was in her 74th year, the same age as that of her husband. She and her family were among the earliest settlers in this vicinity. She was born in Ohio, but when a child she with her father and the other members of the family, came west and settled in Eagle township, their farm including the present site of Riverwood Cemetery. Her father, Jacob Haldeman, and family were driven from their home by the Indians during the Black Hawk War, which began May 17, 1832.

Every time the old Indian chief Shabbona thought the whites, then residents of this part of the state, were in danger from the hostile Indians, he sent a warning to them. The family of Mr. Haldeman, upon receiving word from Shabbona, would hasten across the country to the nearest fort or block house--at Sandy, over in Marshall County--where they would remain until they found it safe to return to their abode.

Mr. Haldeman voted the first ticket in Eagle township. He and his wife died a number of years ago. Mrs Naramour had lived continuously in Eagle township for a period of almost seventy years.

NOTES: Probate Records for John Haldeman Dated January 1838 on file in Lasalle County father of Sarah mother was Hannah (Young) Haldeman (John and Hannah were married in Knox County, Ohio) Sarah may have been born in Richland Co. Ohio according to Baldwin's History of LaSalle Co.
