Vikki,

Thanks for the census data on Elisha and Sarah's family. I had heard that their son Chester (father of the Elisha Gilbert Naramor who was the original subject of this thread) was the last of eight children, but could previously only put names to two of his sisters, Helen and Louisa. Now I can add Calvin, Endora, Albert & Eva to the list. Many thanks.

There was indeed a long run of repeating names in that branch of the family, and there are descendants to this day bearing the names Gilbert and Chester. The Elisha Gilbert born in 1896 or 1897 was the son of Chester A. Naramor (1865 - 1921), who was in turn the son of Elisha Gilbert Naramor (1826 - 1913), whose father was yet another Chester Naramor (c. 1790 - 1847). It was during this Chester's lifetime, when the family had moved to Michigan from NY state (after a very brief sojourn in Vermont, where Chester was born), that the final 'e' was dropped from the spelling of the family name.

Dave
