Have only just seen this posting, you may already have got the answers you need to your questions - however: the origin of Napper/Napier/Knapper/Nappier/Naper/Nafer/
Knaper/Nefer/Nafar/etc.,etc. is rather obscure. I have been trying to track down the origins for several years now, and have traced them through Wales and Somerset as far back as 14th century, also traces in France somewhat earlier, and previously Spain; although mostly Christians, possible Jewish origins prior to Spanish Inquisition/possible forced conversion to Christianity at that time.
You also might like to check the Napier Clan Website: http://www.tartans.com/clans/Napier/napier.html
also various websites on Napier of Marcheston

Hope this helps you.
Would be interested in hearing if you turn up any new information on the extended family.

Regards
K. Napper
