William, I am not aware of any group such as you described. The Baden soldiers are listed, as are some of the Wuerttemberg soldiers, in various lists. There might be a list for the Saarland soldiers as well. Their experience was generally VERY bad. Napoleon lost most of his army in the Russian campaign, and the men who fought in Spain spent lengthy times in captivity as well, if they were "lucky" enough to survive the war at all.

did you check the database of immigrants from Southwest Germany to see if your guy was listed? That would give you a village etc. to start looking.
