German troops: 27th Landwehr infantry regiment

I have a German ancestor who reportedly fought the French as a German soldier in the 27th Landwehr infantry regiment, firstly as a Landsturmmann and later as an Unteroffizier and Feldhuter. This information was passed to me by a local historian in my ancestor's home town of Osterwieck, south of Magdeburg, in Germany. My ancestor's name was Johann Philipp Wenzel. I have separately been told there may be an error ie no 27th Landwehr regiment. So I'm unsure about the accuracy of the information. Does the unit mean anything to any readers here?
