Allison, I believe this is them in 1880 in nearby Surry Co NC census...believe it or not I saw several women in census, whether it was mispelled or not, as Ane...I now think it is a nickname or mistake for Diane.... What do you think? I believe she went by Ane, short for Diane, as I find one William and Diane Napper living in 1880 Surry Co NC. Therefore the annotations made on their marriage transcriptions are not necessarily correct, in my opinion. 1880 United States Federal Census > North Carolina > Surry > Westfield > District 177 HH 90 90 William Napper 78 b VA, parents b VA Diana 35 wife b NC, parents b NC Martha dau 18 b NC, parents b NC Elizabeth dau 17 b NC parents b NC Allison, of course, the daughter listed, would indicate ( if it is indeed our couple), that William's wife was previously married (which conflicts with her being the dau of Wm Amburn) or had children out of wedlock...???
