"Gorges of Plymouth Fort" Richard Arthur Preston, tells the story of Sir Ferdinando Gorges'failed attempt to colonize New England; Maine, in particular. Pages 341-343 describes that he returns to England during the English Civil War 1642-1645 to fight and while there he dies. Henry Jocelyn is named Deputy Governor and is succeeded by Richard Vines. "For two years Jocelyn continued to rule in the name of the Proprietor and to look after Sir Ferdinando's property rights. Early in 1647 Sir Ferdinando's Manor House at Point Christian was handed over to one Robert Nanney as security for a paltry debt of 11 pounds... source document ... footnote #59... Libby, "Province and Court Records of Maine, I, p. 104.""

Great reading for a real understanding of why and how Robert Nanney may have found himself first at Saco and then at Dover, Maine 1635-1640.

Also recommended reading: Hon. James P. Baxter's "Sir Fedinando Gorges and his Province of Maine" 3 vols.

NB. "poine" is Boston for pine. ha! ha!
