Walt, you have two relatives who have already worked on James E. Nanney....Tim Witt and Kelly M. ?... she's from Edna Vincent and believe Tim is from Alice Nanney McCurtner...I'll try to contact them, sure their e-mail addresses are old by now...2001 was last time I heard from them....I have in my FTM that James Edgar Nanney born 1868/9...is son of James M. Nanney born 1828 in Tennessee...he's son of John Nanny born 1804 in NC I think, and he's son of Jordan Nanny born in Brunswick co., Va.....and he's son of John Nanny jr. who was naturally son of John Nanny...Tim sent me pictures of James Nanny and his railroad crew, plus one of him and wife Emily Wells, plus one they thought was him and father, John, but I'm sure it's James and his half-brother John, who was many, many years younger then James E.....John A. was born in Oct. of 1888..almost a 20 yr. difference...don't know any of James M.'s other wives.....his father , John died in Missouri, while logging...in 1858, I believe, and when they listed his heirs in court records, James M. was listed as "living in Missouri"
I tried every version of the spellings of Nanny and could not find a John Nanny anywhere with a son, James E....to help prove Tim and Kelly's theory of John Nanny being James Edgar's father....sorry not more help
