Hi Fiona Good to hear from you. Christopher was indeed the only survivor of that terrible night. He went to England where he was raised by his uncle George Dowdall and returned to Ireland where he married Mary Ellen Dardis in the Pro Cathedral in Dublin in 1789. Christopher and Mary Ellen had a large family but unfortunately many died at a very early age. there were however some who lived on in the area until the 1860s. IF you send me your email I will gladly furnish you with the details.
Christophers GreatGrandfather was Garret Nangle and I believe he was involved in the siege at Maynooth for which his lands were forfeited. I am still trying to get that one straight.
Are you aware that the leader of the gang which carried out the robbery and massacre was actually a foster brother of Christophers father, Hyacinth, and that the mother was pregnant but that did not get her any mercy.
My email is
Regards Mick, Dublin
