Hal,
We are distant cousins. My grandmother Alta (Farmer) Spurling is the daughter of Eaton Jackson Farmer.Eaton is the son of Andrew Jackson Farmer and Catherin Nance.Catherin is the daughter of Joshua Nance and Elizabeth Lucas.I grew up in the Cato area ,I spent many hours playing in the Nance cemetery as a boy. I remember the last funeral held there,even though I was a boy .My grandparents Ma and Dad Spurling lived one half mile across the creek to the north,I was at their house that day.
Have you ever been to the Nance cemetery? Nobody takes care of it anymore.You only want to visit early spring ,late fall or winter cause the tick,s are really bad in the warm season.
Cato has a lot of history ,my Dad knows most of it and He gives a Cato tour every Spring and Fall. There are usually about 30 people attend. They visit local cemeterys have a weiner rost and my Dad tells historical stories,the event usually takes most of the day.You ought to plan a trip if you can.I will talk to you later.
