When we bought our family crest we were told the name means "Old Man Of The Valleys"; we were part of a geographic tribe rather than a family per se, the three white stags on the shield indicate that they were given permission to hunt in the King's Forrest. They suggests that someone did a great service for a king at some time in the long lost history. My great grandfather (name unknown) was a ship's captain and my grandfather William George Nancarrow was a plumber from St James, Penzance, Cornwall UK.
