This may be a little long. I have been saving my questions. What proof is there that Chloe's name before her marriage to Barnabas was James? Some show that Chloe's parents were Dr. Thomas James and Mary Greenwell Manning, but their daughter, Chloe, seems to have married Joseph Fenwick in Maryland, had children before their move to Scott County, Kentucky, and then on to Missouri, where Joseph died in 1810, and Chloe in 1834. Is there a possibility that Chloe is a second wife of Barnabas? When the death of Mary Nally Reid (Barnabas' third daughter) was registered in 1876, it showed her parents as Barnabas and Mary Nally, both born in Maryland. If this is correct, than at least, the three oldest daughters were not Chloe's Who is Theodore Nally in the 1820 Bloomfield, Nelson County, Kentucky census? There are twelve persons in the household, the oldest male (Theodore ?) and female ages 45 or over ( born 1775 or before)? He is too old to be the son of Barnabas and Chloe, and Chloe is head of her own home in the census. Brother to Barnabas? Did not find him on the 1830. Last. Barnabas made a deed in 1813 to Dorotha Nally, selling him literally everything for £100 of lawful KY, money: 47 acres& 60 poles of land (where I now live), cattle, horses, bed and bedsteads, cupboards, crockery, pots, ketts, hogs, and "what is called a dutch oven", tables, chairs, spinning wheels, looms, etc. Actually, I think they were trying to circumvent something, like the heirs, as the last part of the deed reads: The said Dorotha Nally now having a promissory note obligating against me for £100 lawful money of Kentucky, bearing the SAME DATE of this Instrument of writing which he has this day and date DELIVERED TO ME whereas I have the SAME DAY and date invested in him full power and possession of the above scheduled property ...... Question: Who was Dorotha? It was a male, as "his heirs" are referred to in the deed. If his son, Theodore, why Dorotha, written twice in the deed? Was it just a clerical error? Has anyone traced this property to see who sold it? Any help with the above will be deeply appreciated. Thanks, Linda J. Louisville, KY Notify Administrator about this message?
