Sheila Ann Nally
NALLY, SHEILA ANN August 31, 1954 to June 24, 2005 Sheila Ann Nally passed away Friday, June 24, surrounded by her immediate family in New York City, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born and raised in Rochester, New York and found her way to sunny San Diego after graduating from Barnard College in 1977. Sheila started a biotech career at Hybritech in 1982. For the last nine years, she was employed at Gen-probe, where she was an Associate Director of Quality Control. She loved to travel, in recent years, she visited Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, The Czech Republic, UK and Spain - often with her favorite travel companion, her sister Nan. She was the "go to" person for facts and figures, and her vast knowledge landed her a spot as a contestant on the TV show Jeopardy. Museums, movies and live theatre were another passion. She was thrilled to see the Broadway production of Lion King with a special back-stage tour during her final days in New York. Her house in Talmadge was her pride and joy; she took great pleasure in the bountiful harvest of her tangerine tree and considered San Diego as the only place to live. Sheila's home was a place in which she loved to cook and entertain, as her friends naturally became a part of her extended family. She embraced life to the fullest, and those who had the pleasure to know her will always remember her robust laughter and the twinkle in her eye. "Reverend Sheila" blessed four couples in marriage with her certified license. Her wit, kindness, generosity and mentoring were felt by all who knew her, but especially by those who worked for her, to whom she affectionately referred to as "kids". Sheila will be truly missed by everyone who knew her and is irreplaceable in our hearts. She went out the way she livedher way, with a spark and fighting spirit to the end. She is survived by her sister Nan Nally Seif of New York City; brothers Jimmy Nally of Hartford, Connecticut and Mike "Coach" Nally, his wife Mary Beth of Rochester New York; beloved nieces Elizabeth and Katy; nephews Ryan, Brian and Shawn; three cats, Milo, Maggie and Isabella; and many close friends. Contributions can be send to Barnard College, alumnae Office, 3009 Broadway, New York, NY 10027. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, July 17, at 11 a.m. at Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina, 1380 Harbor Island Dr., Harbor Island.
