Hi Lorraine,
I found your message of last August when I did a Google search of "Janet Buist" who was my great grandmother. My Janet Buist (as I know there are hundreds) was born in 1847 in Aucterderran, daughter of Andrew Buist and Margaret Wilson. She married John Finnie in 1867 in Lochgelly and had 8 children, of whom 2 daughters, Janet and Isabella emigrated to Lethbridge, Alberta in about 1908-1912 with their husbands Geordie Goldie and William Twaddle. Isabella Buist Finnie Twaddle was my great grandmother and she died fairly young in Lethbridge, leaving two daughters, Janet Buist and Margaret Brash Twaddle and a son Billy, who also died before adulthood. John and Janet Finnie lived for a time with their daughters in Alberta, but returned to Fife when John learned he was dieing of cancer in 1920.
Do you recognize any names? I have not been able to find a birth record for Andrew Buist to go back any further on this line, but have his birthdate as 16Oct1823, I think from his death certificate of 17April 1866.
At any rate, have you found information of Alexander and Janet Nairn in British Columbia yet? Their deaths are indexed on the BC Archives Vital Events website:

Janet Buist Lyell Nairn died 30 June 1967, age 84 in Burnaby. Alexander predeceased her by several years on 25 September 1936 in Vancouver. The actual records can be viewed on microfilm at several libraries in BC.
I live about 3/4 hour drive from the Surrey Library which holds a set of these films. Do you need lookups of these records, which may give you a next of kin, occupation, address etc?
