I have an old newspaper clipping from Springfield, Ohio, (Clark Co.). The exact date is unknown, but has to be before Nov. 10, 1896 when H.T. Evans died. The clipping was saved by Mrs. Ellen Jane Evans, wife of Hezekiah T. Evans.
"H. T. Evans, captain of No. 4 engine house, has gone to Rochelle, Ga. to attend the funeral of his brother, John N. Evans, who died there Sunday, of heart failure.
Mr. Evans was a former Springfield man, and at one time conducted a grocery at the corner of Columbia street and Lowry avenue. He was prominently identified with a number of lodges - the I.O.O.F. , the K. of P., and the Masonic and had many friends in Springfield, who will be shocked to learn of his death.
His survived by his widow ,two stepsons, WILBUR (my caps)Kurtz, of Chicago and Edward Kurtz of Houston, Tex, three sisters, Mrs. ELLIS MITCHELL, (my caps) of Darby, O; Mrs. Charles Talbott, of Jamestown, O., and Mrs. Frank Nadler, and three brothers, I. T. Evans of London, O.; David W. Evans, of Jackson Miss., and H. T. Evans, of Springfield.
Mr. Evans was a cousin of Mrs. E F. Davis, of Springfield."
Maybe this will help someone. Unfortunately, the first names of the wives (nee Evans, I presume) are not given. Other sites list Hezekiah T. Evans as having brothers and sisters as follows: Isaac, Ruth (married to Hutzlar), Ann married to John Patton?, Catherine married to G.W. Gordon, Isabella, Rachel, and Mary.
The clipping cites, siblings as John N Evans and I. T. Evans and David W. Evans. plus the three sisters.
Any help on the inconsistencies as to the brothers' names or any pertinent info would be appreciated.
