Thank you Larry. As I have no idea where my Lucy Myers came from, except she and others were slaves of Dr. Charles Everett, and were moved from Albemarle Co, VA to Mercer Co, PA, I welcome and add your information to my Myers Mystery.

I am from Greene Co, PA, and curious about the Horn Papers, as well as Gist and others of his day in this area of Pennsylvania. My interest in the Horn Papers centers on written comments about Thomas Hughes and his connection to Slavery. One document we have read, which is on file in Washington, Co. Courthouse, PA, Shows Thomas Hughes (1749-1823) as Executor of the Estate of Barnet O'Neil and his role in auctioning the Negro family of Mr. O'Neil. Not only did Thomas act as executor and auctioneer, he also purchased one of the Negroes, a girl. This one document shows him as slave seller, slave buyer and slave owner. In this regards, I find the horn Papers correct. As my GGG Grandfather is listed in the last Will and Testament of said Thomas Hughes, I am 99.9% sure said Thomas is my GGGG Grandfather. Nothing more on the Negro girl said Thomas purchased at auction in 1779.

My Bice family goes back to the same area of Greene Co., PA that Gist and Horn explored in the 1750's. My GG Grandfather Bice is said to have had long straight hair, and in a local book, reference is made to a family photograph having Native American / Indian written on the back of the photo. Oral family history says my side of the family is part Indian. However, the proof of that claim seems elusive at best. Another branch of the family makes the same claim and there are more details on that connection.

Ft. Province may be a clue for me as the fort appears to be in the same general area of Shannon Run Colored Cemetery in which at least, my GG Uncle Caleb is buried. One burial in 1844, and my family member in 1899. There is more to this mystery too.

A day of research ahead. Again, thank you.
Bill D.
